My video looks blurry

I don’t know why - but my video looks blurry / soft / cloudy all of the sudden. I really need to get something shot and out the door, but it looks like crap. I haven’t had this problem before. What changed? (Yes, I’ve cleaned the lenses.) Please help!

Peggy,

Do you have any before and after pictures? Or at least after?

Jesse

Pics are okay. The video is what is blury. It’s a business venture. I
don’t want to post it

Well, a little hard to say without seeing anything, but are you uploading them to YouTube? Settings there could be different. Or is lighting different? As you know, in the THETA manual settings work in Camera mode, but not in Video mode. Video is all automatic. So it’s not some changed setting in the THETA. Is it both sides of the photosphere equally? Does everything look more blurry or just half?

It looks terrible out of the cam. Before even uploading to anything. I
can’t do anything with it. If you have a link I can send 2 private youtube
links to - to show you the difference in quality - that would be great. I
can’t upload client video here.

Peggy,

If you’re willing to send them to me by email, I’m at jcasman@oppkey.com. This may be a support issue, in which case I won’t be any help. You’ll have to contact RICOH support directly. But I’m happy to provide a second set of eyeballs, and an unofficial opinion.

Jesse

Thanks Jesse. Confused - why is there not a RICOH rep on here? Do you
know where/how to contact them with this issue? I can’t find anything.

This is the Unofficial Guide community site, there are no RICOH support engineers here. There should be support information included in the packaging. I also see this link for RICOH THETA support here: https://theta360.com/en/support/contact/ Good luck!

Hate to say it but THETA S 360 Video becomes blurry, do to the low resolution
a HD 1920x960 video becomes only VGA because you only see a small part of the window

For the best results, encode your video at a high resolution and according to YouTube’s advanced specifications. YouTube currently supports 360° videos with 24, 25, 30, 48, 50, or 60 frames per second. they recommend uploading 16:9 aspect ratio stitched videos in 4K (3840x2160) resolution.

I do not know if this is relevant to the current problem, but there is a compass in the THETA that sometimes needs to be reset. To do this, wave the the THETA in a slow, large figure 8.

From the owner’s manual.

If the lamp is lit in red, the electromagnetic compass needs to be calibrated. Move the camera in a figure eight until the lamp turns blue.
Orientation information may not be recorded if a magnet or other magnetic item is placed near the camera. In such cases, it is recommended that you calibrate the electromagnetic compass by moving the camera in a figure eight before taking photos.

Also, try to reset the camera by holding down the power button for more than 8 seconds.

The THETA S has two video resolutions 1920x1080 and 1280x720. Make sure you have it set to the higher resolution.

Thanks for your reply. That didn’t do it. I wish I would have known this before I purchased it. Isn’t a video camera’s sole purpose to shoot video?

It’s widely used for 360 video. Do your videos look like these videos and
you’re not satisfied with the quality?

It’s not professional grade, but the video quality looks pretty good to me.
